Message from Media Access Australia
Hello accessible film fans,
You may be aware of the recent application by the major cinema chains of Hoyts, Village, Greater Union and Reading to the Australian Human Rights Commission for an exemption from further cinema complaints. For further details about this application, please visit the AHRC website http://humanrights.gov.au/disability_rights/exemptions/cinema/notice.htm
In accordance with its policy on exemption applications, the Commission seeks to give interested parties an opportunity to participate in the process of considering this application.
Media Access Australia would like to encourage all interested parties (either as an individual or on behalf of a consumer group) in participating in this process by making a submission before the closing date of Monday, 7 December 2009. To assist you in writing your submission, MAA has made some notes which we invite you to use. These notes are general statements and we ask you to add your own personal comments.
A wide response to this application will deliver a strong message to the cinemas to say that this is not the end; the proposed rollout is a move in the right direction but there are many issues yet to be resolved.
If you have any questions, please contact me on this email address info@mediaaccess.org.au or on ph: 02 9212 6242.
Yours sincerely,
